This workshop is very useful for colleagues who want to begin to master an EMDR working method with patients with complex traumatization (Complex PTSD and dissociative disorders). Working with this type of patients, it is often necessary to combine standard procedures with specific tools aimed at managing their criticalities and specificities. This working method is mainly inspired by the Jim Knipe method.<\/p>

During the workshop, some key points of working with complex patients will be addressed:<\/p>

  1. How to better understand conflicts between Self States and Parts in complex patients. Participants will revise some important theoretical concepts necessary to understand complex traumatization from a perspective based on the AIP model.<\/li>
  2. How to graphically represent the complex clients\u2019 internal systems. Participants will also see how to graphically represent the complex clients\u2019 internal systems using ovals as a visual representation. Moreover, participants will start to master representation with ovals during practical exercises working in small groups.<\/li>
  3. How to stabilize complex patients with the BHS and CIPOS tools. These tools will also be illustrated using clinical cases.<\/li>
  4. How to process. Participants will have the possibility to look at some specific tools in more details such as the Healing Internal Dialogue (IHD), the Two Hands Interweave, the Loving Eyes procedure, some of the possible alternatives and modifications to Phases 3 and 4 of the Standard Protocol, some techniques for working with defenses of shame, idealization and avoidance, etc. Furthermore, participants will see examples of these tools in both videos and transcripts of clinical sessions.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

            \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFor EMDR therapists who work with complex clients, it is often evident that as the complexity of the patients increases, some patterns and obstacles may not allow therapy to proceed with only standard EMDR procedures. In this case it can be necessary to introduce some variations and adaptations to these standard EMDR procedures and to add other specific EMDR integrative tools.

            \nAmong the obstacles that are most frequently found in the clinical practice with complex patients there are avoidance defenses (that prevent access to traumatic material), the loss of dual attention and safety in the present (the client is overwhelmed by the traumatic material) and dissociation.

            \n\nThis workshop aims to look at some specific tools in more details which are useful for working out these problems: some tools to work with avoidance defenses (such as LOUA, \u201cWhat is good about\u2026\u201d, etc.) and the Loving Eyes procedure. \nThis is not a theoretical course. This workshop is based on practical learning using the speaker\u2019s own clinical material (transcripts and videos). \n\n
